In what ways does your media products use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Titles of Magazine
I chose to use the traditional "one word" title. This is a convention used on a music magazine which can help sum up the magazine in one word. The title basically means the soul of all Rock which is also the slogan of the magazine. I used the colour green on the title because this is one of the main conventions of a rock magazine that you can use. The title mainly dominates the top left corner of the front cover which is mainly expected on many magazines.
Mise en scene
The main and only image on the front cover covers the whole page to make sure the audience get a close up on the band members so they can remember the faces on the front of the magazine. The people who are in the picture are looking directly at the camera which means that the people in the picture are mainly looking at the audience. This makes the reader buy the magazine as it sends out a message to the audience that the magazine is directed towards them.
Costumes and props
I decided to use the contents page to show the props and costumes of the magazine and in the way they show the type of genre I will cover in the magazine. The costumes mainly used by the models are casual clothing which fits in with the genre as it covers all aspects of rock which means they can wear a lot of attire that can fit the stereotypes given to them. The costumes are manily simple, casual clothing. We also used a piano as a prop as it has a lot to do with the rok genre as many bands use a piano for the background of songs. As you notice, there are a lot more female models which is good as it may attract more female readers to the magazine which means more popularity for the magazine itself.
Comparison to another magazine

There are many things that are similar to my magazine front cover to the magazine cover that I will be comparing it to. A similarity between the two magazines is the picture on the front cover. The picture on the nme shows two people who are side by side looking at the camera. This will produce a message to the audience as the characters are looking directly at the camera which convinces more people to buy the magazine. I used this on my magazine but in a different way as the picture has the characters are facing the camera whereas the characters are looking at the camera but are back to back. The text positioning on the magazine is similar as the text is mainly on the bottom left hand side of the magazine. The two magazines also have put different bands on the magazine front cover to catch the attention of the audience as one of their favourite bands may be in the magazine. The magazines also have many differences such as the colour of the magazines text. The nme magazine uses red white and black as their three colours. My Magazine uses the three colours as white, green and black. The colour green is mainly used in a rock magazine and fits the genre of the magazine. The title of the magazine is very straightforward and the colour of the font is suits to the conventions of the magazine as the colour green is a convention of a rock magazine.
The font also is bold and uses capital letters. However, the style of font may challenge the magazine as it is mainly plain and most rock magazines such as Kerrang have a special font to signify their magazine.
